This one sentence is enough to summarize the history of innovation and the mission of this original German firm, created from the merger of two companies talented German engineers nineteenth century named Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz. The year 2015 has sublimated the ongoing efforts of Mercedes-Benz which is easily reflected in its corporate vision: to position itself as number 1 in terms of image and quality and enhance the quality of products and services provided by the company. To certify the consistency, effectiveness and adequacy between vision and reality, nothing less than the World Car Awards at the New York International Auto Show in the US. Indeed, Mercedes-Benz was crowned three times in three of five categories competing. Accurately, the C-Class Mercedes-Benz was voted Car of the Year 2015, the S-Class Coupé, voted Luxury Car of the Year 2015 and the AMG GT Mercedes sports car was crowned Car performance of the year 2015. While this competition exists for 11 years, the German Stuttgart brand has also been distinguished in 2007 (E 320 BlueTEC), in 2012 (S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY) and again in 2014 ( Class S).
The story goes back to the 1880s with the invention of the combustion engine by Gottlieb Daimler in 1885. Only two years after, Carl Benz had developed his first engine. He then got devoted to completing the construction of its first mechanical tricycle in 1885. Carl Benz eventually sold 25 copies between 1888 and 1889, prior to market about 600 vehicles in 1900 under the name Benz. But creativity combined with Daimler would the financial support of Austrian diplomat and businessman Emile Jellinek, builder who works for a certain Wilhelm Maybach. That would enable them to take an advantage over Benz automobiles from 1901. Confident in Engineering Daimler and Maybach, Jellinek would command 36 units of a new vehicle model, requiring that the vehicles are sold under the brand name "Mercedes", eponymous family name of his eldest daughter. This innovative project would turn into a big success in the automotive sector.
Maybach, designer of this new type of vehicle, slice made with versions horse-drawn then, similar to motorized carriages. It lowers and refines the chassis, incorporates an engine with 4 valves and 2 camshafts, installs a magneto ignition and a more efficient gearbox.
Not to be left behind, Benz & Cie German manufacturer launches another equally innovative vehicle in 1908 under the name "Blizen Benz". This would be done at the instigation of his new director Hans Nibel whose office would modernize the company Benz. This chain drive car was controlled by a 4-cylinder engine.
The competition would then be played between the two manufacturers and their decision, to in 1923, be closer to rescue the car industry from bankruptcy because of the hard economic situation after the war from 1914 -1918. Both manufacturers ended up putting their interests together in 1924 before finalizing their merger in 1926 under the name "Mercedes-Benz AG".Car related:
